Mediterranean Seabird Conference to be held this year by Medmaravis

Medmaravis is an international non-governmental association dealing with the study and conservation of coastal habitats and marine avifauna thoughout the Mediterranean region.

The 13th Medmaravis Pan-Mediterranean Symposium will be held in Alghero, Sardinia from 14-17 October 2011.  The overall theme of the conference is "Mediterranean Seabird Ecology and Conservation: Update and Progress".

Although the Mediterranean Sea is only very rarely visited by ACAP-listed species as vagrants (click here), several shearwaters that breed within the region have been proposed for listing within the Agreement, including the Mediterranean-endemic Balearic Shearwater Puffinus mauretanicus (click here).  Ecology and migration of shearwaters forms one of the 2011 meeting themes.

The Agreement on the
Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels

ACAP is a multilateral agreement which seeks to conserve listed albatrosses, petrels and shearwaters by coordinating international activity to mitigate known threats to their populations.
