ASOC is proud to partner with India’s National Center for Polar & Ocean Research @ncaor_goa for our #YouthForAntarctica program “Species-rich Antarctica”. 🇦🇶 At the #ATCM46 in Kochi, children will present the workshop results & we will inaugurate an artwork based on the eight species you can see on this collage by the artist Veda T. Kolleri @vedathozhurkolleri with kind support from P.G.K Rodhouse, J. Robbins, U.Gorter, J. Hyde @wild_things_photos, and S. Perkins @shellyperkinswildlifeart who created the art used in this collage. 🐋🦭🦐🦑🐧 Together with NCPOR and our partners @Umwelthilfe, @BMUV, @Umweltbundesamt, @D_Endeavours, @NgoSustera, we are looking forward to presenting the youth project to the ATCM delegates. 🇮🇳 Link in bio to learn more!

Where is Antarctica? 🇦🇶 Which species live there and why do they need to be protected? 🐧🦭🦐🐳🦑🐟 With a group of 19 kids India, we looked at these questions in our workshop “Species-rich Antarctica”. We explored the fragile Antarctic ecosystem and learned about its biodiversity.
One fascinating species was in the center of the workshop: the emperor penguin. 🐧 Recent studies show that it urgently needs protection. Human activities and a warming climate pose multiple threats to this iconic species. We discussed what can be done to protect it.
In the second half of the workshop, we became creative. We won`t reveal the artwork we worked on just yet, but soon, it will be inaugurated at the ATCM 🇦🇶. Stay tuned to find out! 🥳

Did you know today is #DeepDay? 🌊 While we often think of Antarctica as an unexplored frontier, there`s an even more mysterious realm lurking beneath its icy surface — the ocean depths surrounding the continent. Despite its reputation as an icy wilderness, the Antarctic deep sea is teeming with life.
Using new technologies like the Icefin submarine, researchers have begun to explore the world beneath the Thwaites Ice Shelf. Sea anemones, crustaceans, and fish flourish in the darkness, challenging our preconceptions about where life can thrive.
Yet, with the vast majority of Antarctica`s deep ocean still unexplored, there`s much more to discover. Check out the link in our bio to learn more!
